Day 7: Another travel day

Image
This might be my last post for a couple of days. Tomorrow l I’ll be starting the 4 days „Ciudad Perdida“ (lost city) trek and there seems to be bad reception in the jungle. So here a very brief description of day 7. I had booked a 10:30 bus to Medellin (about 3,5h) and at 7pm a flight to Santa Marta. I repacked everything in the morning and made my way to the city of Jardin. Mathias joined me and we decided to take the teleferico - a little cable car that saves you half of the walk. When we found it, I was already sweaty again - thankfully Mathias helped with my luggage. The first cable car ride was full and we had to wait. That’s where I got a bit nervous, as it was still a bit 12 minutes walk to the bus. I really didn’t want to miss the bus! The ride was short and a little bit scary in that tiny cabin hanging on 2 steel ropes. Once on the side of the town I quickly said goodbye to Mathias and then hasted to the bus station. Luckily I made it and the bus trip was ok. Some beautiful vi...

Colombia Day 6: Beautiful Jardin

Image
As usual here I am waking up around 7am. So I get up and start reading my book in a hammock. It’s such a beautiful and serene place here. Mathias & Michaela got up shortly after me and everyone was starting the the their own way. The hostel also has 3 cute dogs and a cat. Although in the night I didn’t find the dogs that cute, barking at everything. At 8 the lady from the hostel arrived to make breakfast. It was a simple, but good breakfast. Unfortunately my stomach didn’t take it so well, but I guess that’s part of traveling. Luckily I wasn’t hit too bad.   Michaela was leaving today, but Mathias & I were still considering what to do. Around 8:45 Mathias decided to wake the owner of the place to ask her about activities. She came out shortly after and while still waking up started to advise us on activities. Mathias wanted to do a coffee tour and I wanted to do a little hike. We decided to do a coffee tour in the morning and a little hike in the afternoon. The owner called...

Colombia Day 5: Comuna 13 and a long Uber trip

Image
Wow, already day 5! Today I need to finalize my travel plans for the next couple days. The night before I had booked a flight to Santa Marta in 2 days from now. The plan was to spend those 2 days in Jardin, but due to the holidays the buses were fully booked. So I had 3 options: stay in Medellin, leave the next morning at 4am with the bus and have only one night in Jardin or take an Uber. It’s a 3,5 hours trip into the mountains. In Europe that would not be an option with a taxi. Here it’s 90€. I went back and forth and ended up deciding to just bite the bullet and pay the money. But I still wanted to visit the famous Comuna 13. About 8 years ago it was the most dangerous area of Medellin, but not anymore. So I took the metro there and joined a free walking tour.  It was a big group, but luckily our guide had a microphone. It was very interesting and Comuna 13 is really a must visit. However, it is now one big tourist attraction. Like a fun fair, with plenty of souvenir shops, rest...
